Honoring the International Donors to the Fight Against COVID-19
On Monday, May 4, 2020, the European Union (EU) took the global leadership reins in mounting an international response and fundraiser to fight the Novel Coronavirus and its associated pandemic disease, COVID-19.
Amid the still spreading pandemic, which at time of writing has already infected upward of 3.7 million people worldwide and killing more than 260,000, the EU stepped into a global leadership void to encourage international cooperation and action against the Coronavirus.
The fundraiser was conducted online with a view to soliciting donations from nations and other entities to develop and deploy effective diagnostics, treatment and a vaccine against COVID-19. Co-chairs of the event were: the EU, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Japan.
Recognizing that the existence of COVID-19 anywhere on the globe meant that all nations everywhere remain vulnerable, the EU Coronavirus Global Response was successful in raising 7.4 billion Euros (US$8 billion) of a targeted 7.5 billion Euros. In honor of those donors who gave to the international effort, I thank all of them on behalf of humanity and I hereby supply the follow list of donors as named on the EU's website: global-response.europa.eu.
