Head to the Mountains - Southern European Cities Advise Residents to Escape Bad Air

Residents in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, have been advised to head for the mountains, where the air is cleaner, in order to escape stifling high particulate air that has been hovering over a large swath of Southern Europe for a number of days.

Sarajevo, according to the BBC-News, is among the cities to record some of the worse levels of air pollution in recent days along with the capital cities of neighboring Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia. 

Reports indicate that the dangerously polluted smog has been caused by a prolonged period of dry sunny weather with light winds.

Bans on diesel vehicles have been ordered for the next three-days also in the Italian cities of Rome, Milan, Bologna and Turin, where particulate matter levels have exceeded the legal limit. 

While environmentalists have deemed the current air quality as a smog emergency, protesters wearing gas masks have taken to the streets of Bosnia-Herzegovina to demand government action. And as reported by the BBC-News, local residents around Sarajevo, have been lured to head for the mountains, where the air is cleaner, with cheap tickets being made available for cable cars.

Sadly, the Climate Emergency hovering over Southern Europe could transcend to other regions and become a new normal as unchecked Climate Change impacts Planet Earth.
