A Ray of Hope for Syria's Peace
The National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces has agreed to attend the Geneva II peace talks on Syria. This decision by the pro-democratic coalition is a giant step forward on behalf of the opposition forces to seek peace in Syria. Earlier this month, rumor had spread that the coalition would not attend the meeting if Assad's removal from power was not a prerequisite. However, at the New America Foundation in Washington, DC last week, Najib Ghadbian, the Coalition's Representative to the US, said Assad must be removed as the Syrian leader, but he said his group would go to the meeting without any preconditions because they consider Geneva II as a transition mechanism to peace. For the sake of Syria's children, let's hope a peace agreement could be brokered at Geneva II. The opposition Coalition must be congratulated.
