The human tragedy that is the Syrian war, which has seen some 100,000 killed and more than 2.5 million refugees, is escalating into another milestone: a costly humanitarian effort. United Nations(UN) emergency relief coordinator, Valerie Amos, tallied the numbers before a donor countries meeting in Geneva yesterday. This number represents the largest ever UN appeal for a single crisis as the agency needs the money to provide food, water, shelter, education and health services for the Syrian victims and to provide support to refugee-host countries including Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey.
