A Confederacy of Dunces Against Wearing Masks to Combat COVID-19

There was a time, not too long-ago, when I held each and everyone of my fellow Americans in the highest of regard. I considered all to be intelligent, educated and rational. But such a time has past. The intelligence of some Americans is more questionable today, particularly as the nation confronts a pathogen that has already killed more than 136,000 Americans, yet there is defiance to wearing a facial mask.

Via mass and social media during the current and still exploding COVID-19 pandemic in the United States (US), I've borne witness to a stupidity of defiance to wearing facial masks to contain the deadly Novel Coronavirus. A stupidity not before seen in the Republic in the health fight against a deadly disease.

Defiance and resistance to wearing masks, which science has proved would help in stopping the spread of the highly contagious disease, are alarming and troubling in light of the fact that the US has not been able to get control over COVID-19. Such ignorance to a simple act of prevention against a pandemic is not supposed to dwell in the America, the wealthiest nation on Planet Earth. 

But the stupidity of a few Americans is real as national infections top 3,400,000 with record number of new cases and deaths being reported everyday across many states with no end in sight to the pandemic. Yet, wearing a facial masks could help stop the spread, but some folks are resisting the simple act. 

Therefore, I must conclude that there is a confederacy of dunces against wearing facial masks in the US and that that confederacy poses a threat to the general health of the Republic because it endangers greater community spread of the deadly COVID-19 disease.
