The integrity of science and scientists are under test in the United States (US) with regards to evidence, knowledge and guidance best fitted to protect public health amid political pushes from the Trump administration to re-open businesses and schools in the middle of a deadly and still spreading COVID-19 pandemic.
Criticisms of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from President Donald Trump per the health agency's guidance on COVID-19, should not force public health experts to amend any scientific guidance in order to appease the political will of the president.
Science is science and scientists should uphold the high integrity of knowledge, testing and observation learned through their experiences. The pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world gained by following a systematic methodology based upon experiment and observation for testing and hypothesizing, should never be altered to fit any political agenda.
Strict scientific guidelines are formulated out of the greatest of caution to maximize protection and promotion of safe public health. Scientists should not alter facts and standards to fit any political preference. Political preference should be made to fit into the strict guidance of science.
If scientists should cave to political pressure, then their work is no longer scientifically sound. Therefore, the science and scientists, under great test per work on COVID-19, must stick with the science and guidance toward full protection of the public health.
