That more than a quarter-of-a-million people have already died from COVID-19 across the globe as infections continue to spread to beyond 3.6 million victims is certainly indicative of the gruesome predicament humanity faces.
Grandparents, parents, sons, daughters, relatives, friends, associates and others have been claimed by COVID-19. And emphasis as to the perilous predicament this Novel Coronavirus poses to humanity is readily conveyed by the realization that the pandemic is still spreading - with some dire predictions of even greater loss of human lives. Some scientific models are predicting that as many as over 130,000 people in the United States (US) could now die from COVID-19.
US deaths have surpassed 70,000 from some 1.2 million infections and some jurisdictions, on urgings from President Donald Trump, are bucking health guidelines in a rush to reopen their economies.
To push back against the deadly pesky COVID-19 pandemic in the US, stay-at-home-orders and social distancing have made remarkable strides in lessening disease infections, hospitalizations and deaths.
Yet, with guidelines, science and knowledge of COVID-19 suggesting that jurisdictions wait until after experiencing a consecutive 14-day run of diminishing hospitalizations and infections in order to reopen, some states and municipalities in America are reopening, thus exercising a choice for economic gain over preservation of the public health.
While some jurisdictions might have met the scientific mode in order to move forward toward gradual reopening of their economies, still too many have chosen to buck the science, thus opting to imperil the lives of the people in deference for economic output.
And so sums up the predicament and choices before the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The predicament of the disease is inevitable to the people, but the choices to rising from the pandemic are optional to the people.
