The choices before the American people to defeating the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) are very simple given the evidential deaths and destruction the pathogen has claimed. At the time of writing, confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States (US) number 661,166 with a heartbreaking 31,590 deaths.
With respect to American choices to win out over the virus, Americans could, as their rational Governors and Mayors, utilizing scientific evidence and advise of health experts, have proclaimed: observe strict social distancing and proper hygiene per health guidelines; or Americans could join the likes of gut wrenching protesters in Michigan, North Carolina and Kentucky, who are idiotically against stay at home orders and are seeking to politicize the greatest health threat to the American Republic in the last 100 years.
The most disturbing of the protests against stay at home orders have been experienced in Michigan, where some gun toting persons engaged in a drive-by event around that State's Capitol in opposition to the tough public health decree to stay at home ordered by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Michigan stands behind the States of New York and New Jersey with the highest rate COVID-19 deaths in the US. More than 1,600 residents in Michigan have died from the virus. Thus, with the public health as a priority in the State, the Governor has acted like many others across the nation to contain the spread of the pandemic in her State.
Yet, as President Donald Trump has pushed for the reopening of the US economy amid the deadly virus, politicized protesters have descended onto Michigan, North Carolina and Kentucky to demand that health restrictions be lifted.
It should be a no-brainer that public health trumps all politics. If protesters are willing to jeopardize their lives, then that could easily be accepted, however, their intents clash and would imperil the public health of the majority, so their political antics must be rejected. Public health is paramount to sustaining societal continuity.
