Fears and Consequences of COVID-19

Perhaps the greatest fear of the Novel Coronavirus and its COVID-19 disease pandemic, apart from its demonstrated prolific propensity to kill and to infect humans, could be its mysteriousness.

With global infections from the pathogen surpassing 3.2 million and with deaths reaching over 230,000, noble scientists still cannot truly define all the aspects of this sub-microscopic highly contagious agent's wrath.

In spite of scientific abilities that have mapped the gene of various strains of this Novel Coronavirus, and the international issuance of health guidelines to push back and to contain COVID-19, scientists are still unable to state with full certainty the true origin of the contagion, its full characteristics, its exact incubation time, its infected asymptomatic quality, its total possible modes of transmission and whether or not its survival guarantees immunity, and if so, for how.

A Rational Way to Reopening Amid COVID-19 - the New York Way

Given the repeated calls from President Donald Trump to reopen American businesses amid the still spreading Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, his touting of an unproven drug as a remedy for the disease, and his absurd suggestion to ingesting disinfectants to cure the infection, the United States (US) is confronted by much uncertainty per the sensibleness of the chief executive to manage the growing grave health emergency.

In lieu of needed leadership from the president, his repeated missteps on the COVID-19 pandemic, and his longing for an immediate restart of the US economy, even as total American infections from the pesky pathogen have now surpassed one-million with close to 58,000 deaths, then the rational science-based management of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo again emerges as a fitting model to America's pushback against COVID-19 and planning a pathway to reopening American society and economy.

Social Experiments to Identifying Tomorrow's Normal

The Novel Coronavirus and its disease, COVID-19, has forcefully changed the world and its changes will surely remain during the abatement and the ultimate hopeful end of the pandemic.

Grinding basic systems of production to an abrupt halt and triggering expert forecasts of contraction in global economic activity in 2020, COVID-19 has ushered in an age of social distancing and city lockdowns effecting most of the world's population to fight the disease. Current global infections from COVID-19 now stand at 3 million people, with more than 200,000 deaths.

Mercy to the Sateless Rohingya People

Human rights groups are raising an alarm, yet again, of the continuing and exacerbated plight of the stateless Rohingya people of Myanmar amid reports that dozens of them, including children, have died and that hundreds are still stranded at sea in futile attempts to find solace and residency.

The BBC-News and Al Jazeera have reported that a group of stranded Rohingya refugees, who were at sea for months, had been plucked from a stranded fishing trawler on the Bay of Bengal, after being denied berth in Malaysia out of fear of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 25th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States

The 25th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States (US), along with providing a succession to the Presidency of the Republic, also provides a process to removal of the President from office.

Adopted on February 10, 1967,Section4. of the 25th Amendment reads:

Whenever the Vice President and a Majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

The Virus and Man - Stark Similaries

Every day since the recognized advent of the deadly Novel Coronavirus into human society, scientists and researchers have repeatedly reported on newly acquired knowledge about the pathogen.

This knowledge has included human-to-human transmission, asymptomatic characteristics, a supposed incubation time, varying strains, other likely means of transmission and the contagion's effects upon differing people, their ages and medical conditions.

In revealing what they have found about the Novel Coronavirus and its disease, COVID-19, scientists admit that they still don't have enough data-generated knowledge of the pathogen.

Earth Day 2020 Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

Today is Earth Day 2020 and this year's 50th anniversary of the celebration to raise awareness toward the good of Planet Earth, sadly falls amid a deadly Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Under the normal conditions, outdoor events would have been a hive of activity on this day as environmentally conscious folks cleaned oceans, rivers, lakes, parks and communities across the globe.

But this 2020 is non-normal. The COVID-19 pandemic has already infected more than 2.6 million people worldwide and has killed more than 181,000.

COVID-19 and the Environment - an Odd Couple with Strange Benefits

Efforts to contain the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic via stay-at-home orders, are helping to limit the spread of the pandemic and with a surprising added bonus -  improved air quality, and a clearer and cleaner Ganges river.

Weeks ago as the Coronavirus epidemic gripped Wuhan, Hubei province, China, the Chinese government took the extraordinary measure to lockdown more than 60 million people in attempts to contain the pathogen. During that time, the first media reports surfaced of better air quality and cleared skies in some places across China.

Absurdities Amid COVID-19 - Plowing over Crops and Dumping Milk

As if heart-wrenching confirmation of tens of thousands of deaths from COVID-19 in the United States (US) is not enough to confirm the destructive effects of the disease, then stark images of farmers, facing distribution problems, plowing over edible crops and draining nutritious milk into sewers, are more than sufficient to question the rationale of wasting food in a time of deepening unemployment and unprecedented food lines.

At the time of writing, according to data by Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), world COVID-19 pandemic infections numbered 2,424,419 with 166,256 deaths; in the US, confirmed cases stood at 760,570 with 40,702 deaths.

Prioritizing This Moment in the Fight Against COVID-19

In time, the learned scientists and researchers of the world will trace and determine the origin of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). They will develop antivirals to fight this deadly mysterious pathogen. They will also engineer a vaccine against this disease.

In the mean time, full priority, focus and efforts should be applied to pushing back against COVID-19. But to achieve this feat, politicizing and blaming of the pandemic should cease forthwith.

Divided armies are never as successful as united fronts.
