As governments outside China face the reality of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is rationally imperative that they arm the people - their people, all the people, with information and an untainted narrative about the virus as a means to defeating the pesky bug that has now spread globally. Some 70 nations are reporting cases of COVID-19.
With the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledgment that humanity has entered "uncharted territory" in respect to this mysterious illness, it remains true that "we can still push this virus back", as stated by WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
But to accomplish a global defeat of COVID-19, quick and effective preparations remain paramount "starting with containment", the WHO has advised, "there is no choice but to act now", Dr. Ghebreyesus admonishes.
Increase Coronavirus cases and deaths outside China, most noticeably in Italy, in South Korea, in Iran and in the United States (US) are indicative of the necessity for the utility of preparation for the containment and defeat of the pathogen.
While some governments may have blown the window of opportunity for preparation of the arrival of the Coronavirus made possible by China's stark action to shutdown some 150 million people, in its efforts to shield the world from COVID-19, now is the hour for nations to make up lost opportunities to prepare for the illness.
Governments must complete all functions to prepare for COVID-19 and work toward its defeat. However, this Coronavirus cannot be defeated by the entity of government and the bureaucracy alone, the people are needed to win over the illness.
Therefore, information and an untainted narrative about the virus are crucial tools needed by the people to help in defeating COVID-19.
