Children, especially you in Syria and in Yemen, I am deeply saddened over your prolonged sufferings with no real relief in sight. I am profoundly sorry. I passionately wail over your conditions as victims as conflicts amid a failing of humanity to bring amelioration to your plight.
The inaction of the wider world to secure your relief is indicative of the impotency of international powers to achieve peace in jurisdictions they have deemed a non-priority.
Over many years, on this Blog, writing a series of posts Note to Syria's Children, I've suggested that you children should cling to the hopes of democracy as a means to developing the institutions needed to normalizing your societies. I was wrong. Democracy and all other systems have failed you.
Suffering has multiplied from Syria now to include Yemen, where a humanitarian crisis of dying children and hunger under the cloak of war continues to destroy the childhood of far too many children. Still in Syria, children continue to die as they flee location to location seeking solace and comfort. Yet, reality confirms, there is no solace, no comfort. Conflict is consuming far too many of you. So do whatever is necessary to break free.
With the historic torch bearer for justice, freedom, the rule of law and opportunity - the United States (US), becoming more isolated every day under Donald Trump, and with a reluctant Europe not assuming the global leadership to invoking peace and humanitarian well being in your lands, I'm afraid children, but your fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends must stand alone to demand your relief.
It's an arduous and daunting task. To ensure your survival and to recapture your disappearing childhoods, your relatives must now act to secure your continuity as equal partners of the human race.
Fight if you have to, fight the good fight - fight for survival, fight for opportunity, fight for freedom, fight for relief. May God go with all of you. Amen.
