Wherever people live, whether in peace, in conflict or in transition, they all have one defining aspiration - to-be: to have a future - to live happily in secure environments under the rule of law and free of incitements that promote division and hate, which could ultimately lead to violence and decline.
For decades, the United States (US) has always stood as the epitome of one such place to-be. Sadly, in the past two-years, especially and more prolific, in recent weeks, the great Republic of Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy, Reagan and Obama has witnessed, under a mountain of divisive actions, a drowning of the beacon that once offered hope to-be.
Racist rhetoric, Tweets and divisive provocations from President Donald Trump threatens the core of the American Republic. The rantings from the US executive has placed the US in the unprecedented position of undergoing a diminishing global sphere of influence and respect. Moreover, the rantings are contributing to a deeper divide in the US - a nation that has worked hard in recent decades to overcome divisions of race and national origin.
Yet, despite the president's provocations, most of America still seek to-be, desire racial harmony and wish for continuity of a united Republic. The quest to-be amid divisive incitements must prove stronger than dangerous rantings and provokers in order to regain the decency, beacon and influence of the United States of America.
