My Republic - our Republic, the United States of America (USA) has stood as a model and a beacon of democracy, freedom, opportunity, equality and the rule of law for more than a century. This lure to seek and to exercise full human potential has brought millions of peoples - immigrants, to the shores of this land bounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans ever since its settlement. America has been a successful laboratory in mixing the kaleidoscope of peoples to yield prosperity and security. As a result, American influence has been welcomed throughout the four corners of the world.
Yet sadly, as started in 2017, experienced in 2018 and going into 2019, the traditional and historical standing of the USA is contracting. Its beacon, respect and influence are declining.
Brought to wrought by a divisionist, isolationist, nationalist and arrogant Executive that continues to buck the norms that did gave rise to America's glory, influence and respect, President Donald Trump has instead casted America into a period of concerned uncertainty, both within the Republic, as well as abroad among traditional and historical allies.
Trump's blatant spats with world allies amid his non-adamant criticism of despots, his questioning of US intelligence agencies, the justice department and his dismissal of investigations relating to his campaign for president, will continue to raise constitutional issues per his competency to successfully carry out the Office of President of the United States of America in 2019.
Despite the stresses to America's standing from Trump's presidency, the Republic will remain strong in 2019 due in part to a new shift in the balance of power in the US legislature by the Democrats seating a majority in the House of Representatives on January 3, 2019. This occurrence should act as a much needed major check and balance upon the Executive toward calming and providing hope to the American people and allies that there is continuity and rational leadership still alive and functioning in the Republic.
In 2019, right wing groups in the USA, emboldened by Trump's presidency, will continue to push a divisionist agenda based upon fear, racism and xenophobia. Immigration affairs at the US-Mexico border, Trump's wanted-wall and a bulging migrant children population in US detention, will add fuel to the fire between conservative and progressive ideologies within the Republic.
Bilateral negotiations and a likely settlement into Trump's started trade war with China could help a strong economy in 2019. Yet, financial markets will continue to show signs of volatility in 2019 based upon fears and reckless assertions from Donald Trump, if he is not impeached by summer 2019.
Security issues relating to North Korea, Venezuela and the Middle East will figure highly in 2019 in spite of Trump's stated desire to draw down US troops in Afghanistan and Syria. Trump's anti-Iran stance could draw the US into another conflict in 2019.
At home, violent crime and hate crimes are likely to increase in 2019. Gun violence will continue to wreak havoc upon many communities in the US. Intense snow storms, strong tornadoes and other natural disasters exacerbated by Climate Change, could cause much destruction in 2019.
But all in all, the resolve of the majority of the American people to continuity of peace, opportunity, liberty, equality and the rule of law, will ensure the protection and the upholding "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" in 2019.
