Lion Air Flight JT 610, a Boeing 737-Max8 aircraft, crashed into the sea 13-minutes after take off from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport, killing all 189 passengers and crew on board. The aircraft was headed to the Indonesian city of Pangkal Pinang, when tragedy struck.
The new aircraft, according to media reports, had been in commercial passenger service for a short time and had logged only some 800-hours of flying time. Reports also indicate that the aircraft suffered some type of technical difficulty on the day before the crash during a flight from Bali to the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Indonesian officials, while not grounding the entire fleet of the doomed aircraft type, have ordered inspections on those planes.
