As Category 4 Hurricane Michael approaches the United States (US) mainland, I urge the people of the state of Florida, to be safe. Those under mandatory evacuation orders should heed those serious warnings. And all others should seek immediate safe shelter.
Hurricane Michael, which is expected to come ashore this afternoon from the Gulf of Mexico, is now the most powerful storm to threaten the panhandle section of Florida. While Florida battled the big Category 5 Hurricane Andrew back in 1992, which approached the state from the east, the state's population has since increased and the west coast has had very little experience with tropical storms of the magnitude of Hurricane Michael.
Western Florida and the panhandle are are expected to fall victims to winds in excess of 100 m.p.h and a storm surge topping 12-feet. Power outages, flooding and wind damage could make for a major catastrophe in the Sunshine State.
Therefore, Floridians must exhibit the strongest of safety measures to first protect themselves and loved ones over property, which could be replace. Good luck Florida and be safe.
