The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act(PPACA)[short name: the ACA or Obamacare], 2010, was a signature piece of legislation advocated by United States(US) President Barack Obama, as needed to extend healthcare to millions of Americans without health coverage, to those traumatized with the fear of losing their homes and their savings by skyrocketing medical cost and to those handicapped with pre-existing medical conditions. Obamacare brought comfort, ease, stability, peace of mind, civility and empathy back into the American Republic.
Yet, as was the case before its enacting, Obamacare had its critics within conservative circles, even though many of them and/or their families, benefited directly from the new legislation. Opposition to the ACA continued through last Autumn's Presidential Elections as politicians found ways to confute a good-intended and necessary health program. Politicians seized upon the inevitable rise in health cost to portray the ACA as bad for 20 million people and as bad for the Republic.
Now, the Republican President-elect, the Senate and the House of Representatives have started 2017 with full intention to repealing the ACA. They will probably succeed.
But the ACA stands as a better good to the Republic. That Republicans have no other plan in lieu of Obamacare for the 20-million-plus benefactors of the program, to nullify the ACA, confirms the vindictive nature of Republican politicians to repeal the ACT just because it was a a major landmark of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. There should be full support for the retention of Obamacare.
To deny patients and citizens the protection of health coverage is a set back to any Republic. Thus, when the Republicans have repealed Obamacare, the American Republic will be weaker and unhealthier. But, who knows, maybe this has been the intent all along of those oppose to Obamacare - to control population. Good health to all and may God Bless the innocents.
