The unity and the preservation of the Republic emphatically trump the egos and the quirks of leaders. To this end, no effort should ever be spared in protecting and safeguarding the integrity of the Republic from any approaching harm.
The people - the citizens of the Republic define the state, not the leaders, who are chosen - sometimes erroneously, as extensions, as agents and as representatives of the people. Thus, whenever the Republic recognizes forthcoming harm, the people must act in full concert with their representatives in order to protect the Republic from injury to its guarantee of life, liberty, equality and the rule of law.
However, if the people's representatives and agents are slow to recognize and to comprehend any approaching pressing dangers to the Republic, then full rights are reserved to the people through any means to remedy and to safeguard the Republic from harm. Therefore, the unity and the preservation of the Republic must always trump any egos of leaders that may bring harm to the State.
