A better security outcome from two current armistices in Syria and Ukraine would be for peace to take hold and to become sustained overtime.
Yet, with numerous violations of the two ceasefires in both theaters, it could be almost impossible to maintain a high level of readiness for war punctuated with violation skirmishes for any prolonged period of time.
World War I, which ended with an armistice in 1918, was a century-ago event which armistice clearly signified defeat to Germany and ushered in a common welcomed peace.
However, in east Ukraine and in Syria, in 2016, there are no clear winners. Therefore, the peace in both conflicts need to be won through persuasive negotiations and not leaving the recurrence of war to perpetuity. So here's to finally winning the peace in both Syria and in Ukraine.
