Syrian opposition groups have been skeptical, while Assad's regime has been adamant, toward Russian sponsored talks later this month on the Syrian war. And the opposition groups have credited concerns to be skeptical toward the talks slated for January 26, especially now that Bashar al Assad, has admitted that the talks are not really about bringing peace to Syria.
As reported by the Associated Press(AP), Assad has declared that the Russian initiative to bring together the warring sides, does not aim to launch peace talks, but rather to discuss the basis of future negotiations. In other words, despite prior Geneva talks to bring peace to the Levant, Assad is all for more talks to talk about how to talk about negotiations for peace.
Hence, Russia's initiative, which many Syrian opposition groups have already opted out of, amounts to nothing else but a delay to real peace while prolonging the pain of the Syrian children and civilians. Moreover, Russia's initiative, buys more time for Assad's reign in Syria.
But the suffering of victimized Syrians has been a calamity - a travesty to humanity, which needs to end. And the International community owes stability and peace to the Syrian people above all costs and initiatives.
