The establishment of official diplomatic ties between the United States(US) and Cuba is a welcomed achievement that will serve not only as a vital economic lifeline to Cubans, but more so, to promote stronger security and stability in the Americas.
Plans by US President Barack Obama to site an embassy in Havana and for Cuba to establish an embassy in the US, ends 50-plus-years of Cuban isolation; and the plans fittingly welcome Cuba back into the fold of normal nations. Now, Cuba can set to work to rebuild strong ties both diplomatically and economically.
With Cuba back in the flock of normalized relations, the move stabilizes security in the region and removes a variable of instability Vladimir Putin had counted on to meddle in the West as his house of cards begin to crumble at home. Now Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela could learn from Cuba's ascension and its significance to political and economic stability in the Western Hemisphere.
