That my joy and my gleeful eagerness for a peace to the people of Gaza was at a non-sleep high earlier this morning, only to be bludgeoned back into the reality of despair on hearing of the early news of a breech in the mutually agreed upon cease-fire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is of no significance compared to the continued hell civilians and children in Gaza now have to re-suffer.
That between 35 to 50 Palestinians were killed and some 220 injured, and an Israeli soldier taken prisoner, within three hours of the truce effect, is preposterous. Moreover, the breaking of this 72-hour cease-fire sheds light on one fallible clause of the agreement: to permit an occupying army to remain in operation in the occupied land during the truce. The actions of Hamas and Israel demonstrate that they both are incapable of implementing and sustaining their own peace because lunacy versus arrogance is a lethal, violent, irrational and incompatible blend that begs for patient rational direction from a third party. To this end, and for peace to reign for the sake of humanity and the lives of the children and the innocents of Gaza, Washington, corroborated by the United Nations, the European Union and the Arab League, must now demand and gain the peace of Gaza.
