Ukraine Must Keep Odessa

Amid Russia's menacing and the resulting instability that is stifling Ukraine, with raging battles in the eastern town of Slaviansk, to a self proclaimed republic in Donetsk, and to agitations from Kharkiv to Mariupol to Luhansk; Odessa is one city Ukraine cannot afford to lose; nor to allow it to hang in the balance. Odessa has to stand firmly with the people of western Ukraine. To lose Odessa, a strategic port city on the Black Sea, would be to  render the Ukraine cause toward prosperity and modernization, a failure. The youth, who gathered with seasoned dissidents at the Maidan - braving all the natural elements, and the deadly violence from Yanukovych's henchmen, they could perhaps, and grudgingly, envision a modern Ukraine without its eastern pro Russians, but they would never idly cede Odessa to pro Russian rebels without defending it with their lives. So as Putin menaces Ukraine closer and closer to civil war heading into a  May 25 national vote, Odessa is one city, Kiev will defend to the end.

The bold group, Boko Haram, that has kidnapped over 200  girls in Nigeria, is now threatening to sell the girls. The militants stormed an all-girl secondary school on April 14 and took the girls who were taking exams at the time. Abubakar Shekau, the group's leader has admitted: I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market." Surprising? No! Lawless embarrassing barbaric acts such as this abduction are re-emerging throughout Africa. Gruesome heinous acts of human-on-human violence have been reported from Central African Republic, to Sudan and South Sudan and obviously Nigeria. Numerous reports have detailed machete mutilation deaths of children and women; and of killers walking the streets with the heads of their decapitated victims in their bloody hands. This is the said Africa that sat and watched genocide in Rwanda in the 1990s. Today, the world witnesses another episode of Africa's struggle to obtain unity between tribes, clans, religions and nations - a unity, which has eluded Africa for centuries.

UPDATE... News out of Maiduguri. Nigeria, is that Boko Haram, has abducted another eight girls, ages 12 to 15,  from a village in the northeast this morning.
