May ushers in a number of mays upon our World. What might happen in Ukraine? Will Russia adhere to sanctions and agreements and seek to de-escalate tensions there? Will Putin continue to destabilize Ukraine to effect the May 25 vote there? Will NATO muster the girth to secure all of Central and Eastern Europe?
What will May bring to tensions on the East and South China Seas?
Will the Philippines be able to fish its exclusive economic zone seas without fear of harassment from China? What incident might occur over Japanese administered islands on the East China Sea? May closure to the relatives of the loved ones of Malaysia Airlines MH370 come this May?
Could stability and a halt to violence engulf South Sudan, Nigeria and Central African Republic this May?
Of the Syrian war, may May bring peace? May May return thousands of Syrian children to their childhoods? In respect to Egypt, that some 1200 people have been condemned to die for supporting the ousted Morsi, what mercy might May bring to them? In Thailand, could the determination of the people there for a different form of governance become a reality this May? May reconciliation between Israel and Palestine gain credence in May? Will Iran respect the welfare of its people and live up to a policy of non nuclear armament this May?
Regards Venezuela, will stability between Maduro and the opposition become possible this May? In Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua, will leftist leaning leaders not tilt farther to a bygone era of strife this May?
In Northern Ireland, will the arrest of Sinn Fein party leader, Gerry Adams, in connection to a 1972 murder, reopen a bloody path this May? In Scotland, will the people continue on a path to sovereignty this May?
There are many mays in May, but out strongest resolve may be our expectations and our desires to maintain peace, economic stability, freedom and the respect of human dignity. Here's to a peaceful May!
